4 Reasons I’m Pumped for The Pitt’s Season 2 Premiere

Look, I’ve said a million times that I adore when the form imitates the content, so it makes perfect sense that I would be infatuated with HBO MAX’s The Pitt. We get an hour-long episode of each hour of a 12-hour ER shift… [Mary Kay levitates as in miracles].

And when Season 1 lasted 15 episodes? Well, everyone in the medical community immediately put it together. When I was trying to convince one friend to watch it, she immediately asked, “So was there a shooting? Or a natural disaster?”

Looks like this season is 15 episodes, too. I know it takes place on the Fourth of July (yikes) and Robby’s last day (before a well-deserved sabbatical? I hope?)… so what’s it gonna be? Surely we’re not abandoning the format of one-hour-equals-one-hour!

Here’s a list of things that I’m excited to see shake out in the second season, things that have lingered with me for months because the writing set them up so well.

Night shift coming?

I was so pumped to see Dr. Abbot (Shawn Hatosy) in his element (of wartime medic chaos) when he came into the ER for the all-hands-on-deck call in S1E12: “6:00 P.M.” I hope we get more of him, and it looks like we might—what a compelling, competent character, and we’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg.

Same with this bad bitch right here:

Dr. Parker Ellis (Ayesha Harris)… who is she? I am captivated by that one spicy line to the demanding guy who saw the rats: “Okay sir, we’ll take care of that.”

Myrna (Jeanette O'Connor) Loves Fruitcake

Remember this old broad handcuffed to her wheelchair? What’s her deal? Where is she at? I sure as shit can’t wait to find out.

Same with Earl (Hansford Prince). He knew “vitals every four hours,” unlike that one prick (Drew Powell), but what’s got him in the ER all the time eating up their sandwiches?

Oh My God What Is Happening with that Baby

The hair tourniquet only lasted a couple minutes in Season 1, Episode 4, "10:00 A.M.", but my baby was about five months old at that time. So, I hated every second.

(Granted, when the mom asked if taking the infant’s rectal temperature was “necessary” I was like, come on girl. If you’d a done that at home you might not have even needed to come in! Also, seemed like she didn’t do an at-home visual exam either, but maybe that tourniquet tightens faster than I allowed, and judging new moms is shitty, so just redact this whole parenthetical. Delete, delete, delete.)

Season 2 has an even smaller baby in the ER. FMTD, I don’t know if I can handle it.

Obviously, I’m also excited to see what’s happened with Nurse Dana (Katherine LaNasa) to bring her back, and what kind of atonement got Dr. Langdon (Patrick Ball) back in the door, too.

This season, I will watch in real time as each new episode drops. The pacing of this show had me on the edge of my seat for Season 1. That means I was bingeing till 2am with bloodshot eyes because I always lie to myself and say, “Let’s just see about the cold open” and before I knew it, two hours had passed.

What’s got you hype for the premiere—which is just one day away!?
